Project Details
We worked with London Borough of Tower Hamlets at the Pre Planning Consultation Stage on this project submitted by Formation Architects and Barrett Homes. We guided LB of Tower Hamlets on integrated urban realm design and the benefit of using Section 106 to create a holistic design, improving the urban areas of the new residential development and the East India Mono Rail Station urban realm at the street level.
We worked with London Borough of Tower Hamlets Urban Design and Conservation Department and attended the pre planning consultation with the HOK and NHS design team. We gave guidance and independent advice to Tower Hamlets on a holistic design approach and the development impact on the area, the urban realm design, traffic and pedestrian movements, way finding, massing, material and colour for improving the design. We also attended the presentation to CABE and GLA.
We worked with London Borough of Tower Hamlets Urban Design and Conservation Department, guided and advised on the pre planning consultation stage of the new mixed use development for a 1000 unit residential and a 30 storey hotel with retail shops, bars, restaurants and landscaping. We worked with London Borough of Tower Hamlets on the pre planning stage and provided guidance and independent advice on design issues for the regeneration of the borough's most populated, run down and crime affected estate. Consulted with the Architects (PRP), the Ocean Housing Association, local police, transport engineers and residents representatives to agree on design and planning issues for securing the estate by designing crime out.
We worked as Client Design Advisor with Parsons Brinkerhoff International (PB World) on the competition frame work stage of the Surbiton Station Urban Realm Regeneration. Gave independent advice on the competition communication plan, material and presentation and assisted with the site character study and analysis.
We were invited by the Client KN Group Engineers and Developers to act as the Client Design Advisor on the master plan for a 250 hectare new city of 100 gates for tourism, culture and recreation in north west Iran. The focal point of the city is a 100 story mixed use residential hotel with high end retail outlets and offices. We assisted the client in procurment of high quality consortium and introduced renowned UK designers and architects.
Client asked us to develop a concept and design proposals for 22 acres of green land on the edge of Cranleigh for a new community. The development comprised 540 low rise mixed tenure houses, village green heart and an eco pond and small shops leaving 2/3 of the site for green landscape.
We were asked to produce the concept design and master planning for change of use of six old cemeteries in Edinburgh into residential development keeping 1/3 of the old cemeteries and planning new houses on the remaining 2/3 of the site.
Working with Islington Borough Council in 2000 we helped to deliver the major master plan for the regeneration of the estate. The entire 1400 mixed tenure residential units were refurbished and reinvigorated and 4 tall urban blocks were demolished to create space for new smaller blocks. New roads were introduced to improve permeability and intelligibility. New landscape layout was introduced to design out crime and improve safety and security and the street scene was improved
Working with HTA Architects in 2004 we produced the master plan for the regeneration of a Radbourne style design. Consultation with the Ashford Planning Department, the local police, residents, schools and business representatives led to collective decisions on options for designing out crime on an estate that suffered anti-social behaviour and a high crime rate. Eight blocks with 450 units were demolished to build 500 new, planned new green travel route, new village heart, community centre.
Our clients commissioned us to act as their advisor for the master plan of a proposed city of recreation, sports and cultural activities. The purpose of this city is to help service the holy city of Mashhad near by. Following numerous meetings with the consortia we visited 250 hectare and 50 hectare sites, collected necessary information and provided independent advice on design validity, impact and improvement. We arranged meetings in Dubai for the clients with the UK Signature Architects.
Working with Burns and Nice we Project Managed stages A to E of the proposal for part of the Thames Gateway Transit Network. The transit route extended from North Greenwich London Underground Station to Abbey Wood national Rail Station, via Woolwich Town Centre, Royal Arsenal, the Thames Gateway Bridge Area and Thamesmead. On a tight programme, we delivered on time and budget an environmental improvement and sustainable safe and secured urban realm project for Transport for London.
Major refurbishment and roof extension to existing urban blocks in Gibraltar. The work included the refurbishment of the car show rooms and the retail shops at the ground level, offices on the 1st, 2nd 3rd levels and adding two storeys of apartments at roof level.
Sectional proposal through the site of a 22 acre land development for 540 low rise low density mixed tenure residential dwelings in 1990s. The key proposals were hand-drawn.
We took this project through a 2nd stage planning appeal and following several meetings with the Camden Borough Planning and Landscape Departments and extensive value engineering, negotiation and adjusments to the design we produced a whole set of new drawings and presented the design on five revised matters for planning appeal. We achieved consent.
We designed and planned 540 units on 22 acres allowing 2/3 for landscape. The development proposal entailed clusters of 16 mixed tenure houses with front and back gardens and parking spaces, arranged around a secure shared space that is emphasised on each corner with a 5 to 6 storey apartment block for single occupancy, with adequate and green parking spaces for the residents and visitors.
The client asked us to advise them on the F.F & E. We gave guidance, direction and independent advice on choice of the materials, colours, textures, lighting and interior effects in converting a Methodist Hall into a modern house.
We worked with the London Borough of Islington in 2000-02 on phase five of the £60 Million Marquess Estate Residential Regeneration. We produced entire packages for the Stages A to K RIBA Plan of Work including refurbishment of a 44 unit urban block with entire re-facing, asbestos removal, re-surfacing upper walk ways, new M&E installation, new windows and improvement on safety and security with demolition of 4 units to allow for new road. Ran consultation with residents.
In 1998-2000 worked with Percy Thomas Partnership on the construction stage of the £10M PFI contract for private and public investment. The project comprised 8,000 sq m office administration facilities, accommodation for 450 police officers and 60 civilian support staff, specialised units for custody and communications, 39 cells for custody, victim support and child protection units.
We were recommended to Nightingale Associates Health Care Specialists by Structural Engineers who worked on Sofra Restaurant with us. We acted as the Site Architect and Contract Administrator on the £22.4m JCT Contract and worked closely with the Barnett NHS Trust, Mowlem Contractors, Cyril Sweett QS, AECOM PM, Babtie Infrastructure, Lorne Stewart M&E and Long and Partners Service Engineers. The hospital is now functioning and serving the community.
Private commission from Sofra / Ozar International Resturants for change of use of a derelict public house to an A3 licenced Restaurant. We collaborated with HAA Architects using their resources to produce documents. We delivered a £1.2m IFC with the contractors responsible for any changes. Work entailed refurbishment, fit outs and major alteration in the basement to install a mechanically ventilated kitchen and facilities.
Working with Barron and Smith Education Specialists we produced the concept design for the transformation of the existing technical college into a New Academy on the Tower Hamlets BSF Programme.
Key member on the Client Design Advice Team with Barron and Smith Education Specialists working on Haringey BSF Programme giving independent advice. In collaboration with the BSF team we defined the project scope, planned, programmed and delivered the Options Business Case and Design Briefs for all the BSF Schools. Produced Curriculum Analysis and Accommodation Schedules, organised Design Standardisation Meetings, over saw all the proposals from the appointed architects. Reviewed stage C design.
We worked on the initial concept design and the presentation drawings for McColl Architects on the major shopping centre in Cambridge for clients Lend Lease.
We developed a master plan strategy for a new modern Cultural Forum on the IBA Site South of Tiergarten and north of the canal and the Bauhaus for the united Berlin. The main aim of the proposal was to create a new place to celebrate the joined cities and cultures. Proposals included a major urban park for outdoor cultural and recreation activities, a large entertainment zone on the canal edge with a planetarium, galleries, academies, hospitality facilities,four mixed use tall blocks.

The aim was to design the world's largest "Out Door Room" as a major civic space on the north bank of the Thames River for a mixture of activities.
Proposal in 1995 for the design of a 4 star full service hotel positioned on the Gibraltar Rock with bedrooms and balconies to enjoy the view of the ocean, and bars, restaurants and spa facilities.
Working with HAA Architects in 2003 we produced an entire design package for a new extension block, an 80 bedrooms hotel and the refurbishment and fit out of the existing club facilities, shop, restaurant, changing rooms and the external landscaping.
Our client asked for a cosy retirement four bedroom cottage to be designed with maximum natural ventilation, natural light and timber cladding and outdoor living space.
