The practice was founded and is directed by Azar Djamali an ARB registered Architect also a member of the RIBA since 1993. She was educated in the UK, studied architecture at Greenwich University. She is a Recognised Urban Design Practitioner of the Urban Design Group she studied Urban Design at South Bank University followed by Advanced Architectural Studies at Bartlett School of Graduates, University College London (UCL).

She is also qualified in MBA Business Administration with focus on Design Management from the University of Hull. She achieved her Certificate of Competence in Teaching at Higher Education from the University of East London and regularly teaches urban design at various universities.

She trained as Expert Witness at The Academy of Experts in 2010 and is a member of The Academy also on the RIBA List of Experts. 

Previously her background was in Interior and Exhibition Design and Fine Arts.

She has 30 years of professional experience in the UK and overseas from working with the corporate organisations, private developers and the public sector on diverse projects from start to completion and gained extensive experience in new built and renovation on micro and major projects including Iconic Villas, High End Residential, Social Housing, Mixed Use Development, Education, Health Care, Hospitality, Retail, Offices, Civic, Transit and Transport Public Realm Improvement, Town Centre Regeneration and New City Masterplanning.

 

She has gained strong design negotiation and agreement skill and specialises in managing client expectation, stakeholders engagement, team building for mega projects and developing major bid consortiums, community and neighbourhood development,  competition bids and tenders, brief development, spatial audit and R&D, character studies and analysis with production of reports and development plans, project business case and financial planning, feasibility, vision and conceptual design, strategic and logistic planning and programming, design consultation and negotiation and agreement, pre planning advice, detail design, design management and implementation, sustainability and regulatory compliance.

Her approach uses lateral, creative and pragmatic thinking that balances highly imaginative ideas with best practice management and extensive technical knowledge coupled with extensive experience from work on diverse projects. She works with a passion for holistic, innovative, intelligent and sophisticated design which responds to the users' evolving sense of self and spatial, socio economic and environmental awareness, whilst improving lives and standing the test of time.

 

Azar has been a member of Southwark Design Review Panel since 2010,  and since 2004 has sat on  the Corporation of London Conservation Area Advisory Committee. She was the RIBA London Region Chairman in 2009-10 and the CLAWSA (Central London Branch of RIBA) President in 2006-09. She was also the Vice Chairman of the Urban Design Group 2004-06.
